Vote up the most outrageous scandals that overshadowed any rose ceremony in pure drama.

The Bachelorette and The Bachelor are presented as light, escapist entertainment. The ridiculous group dates are hilarious. But that glossy veneer often hides behind-the-scenes controversies and uncomfortable revelations. Sure, some of the wild scandals from The Bachelorette and The Bachelor are filmed for our viewing pleasure, but oftentimes, the real drama goes down when the cameras aren’t rolling. Consider contestant Rozlyn Papa, who had an affair with a producer, or the case of Lincoln Adim, who was convicted of battery while his season was still airing.

With the rise of social media, Bachelor scandals have multiplied at alarming rates. The contestants’ Instagram and Twitter feeds are on display for the world to analyze, and fans of the show are proving to be assiduous sleuths, uncovering scandal after scandal with a little help from social networks and Google.

In fact, Becca’s 2018 season of The Bachelorette faced some serious scandals thanks to an unexpected source: former Bachelor hopeful Ashley Spivey. As a moderator on a Bachelor-themed Reddit thread, Spivey was privy to some inside information about contestants Garrett Yrigoyen and Lincoln Adim, and she wasted no time revealing their questionable actions to the public.

On the final episode of Bachelorette Hannah Brown's season, she confirmed she had broken off the engagement with Jed Wyatt because he had been dating ex Haley Stevens the entire time. He reportedly told Stevens that Brown meant nothing and being on the show was just a scheme to further his music career. However, when Brown found out (thanks to a cover story in People), he claimed he had never really dated Stevens, despite admitting they had met each other's families, gone on multiple vacations together, and said "I love you" more than once.

Brown handed back the ring, leaving her once again single at the end of the season. However, she did ask runner-up Tyler Cameron out on a date in the reunion live show on the finale.

Jake's Season: Rozlyn Hooked Up With A Producer

In 2010, Jake Pavelka was presented as a swoon-worthy Bachelor: handsome, romantic, and a pilot to boot. But that didn't stop cast member Rozlyn Papa from going after another man: one of the show's producers. When the scandal broke, host Chris Harrison was quick to kick Papa off the show, but she fired back and denied the rumors. She claimed she was really let go because the producers didn't want her to tell Pavelka she had a son.

The Bachelor stood by their claims. Of the incident, Harrison told People:

She had a physical relationship with a producer on our show. You cannot do that. There is no gray area... Other girls on the show saw it. The producer confessed more than once and to more than one person. I cannot make it any clearer.

Andi's Season: Nick Revealed They Slept Together In The Fantasy Suite On Live TV

Andi Dorfman's 2014 season of The Bachelorette gave #BachelorNation the ultimate love-him-or-hate-him cast member: Nick Viall. Even though he always seemed to be at the center of controversy with the other men in the mansion, Viall made quite the impression on Dorfman; he snagged her first impression rose, thrived on one-on-ones, and made it all the way to the top two before Dorfman let him go in favor of Josh Murray (which didn't last).

Viall's place in Bachelorette scandal history was cemented forever on the After the Final Rose special, when he revealed to the world on live TV that he and Dorfman hooked up in the Fantasy Suite. The confession caused quite a stir, and Viall says he regrets it - kind of:

I regret that in the sense that it unnecessarily and unfairly caused Andi to get a lot of flack. I wasn’t trying to accomplish that. Women have as much right as men to do whatever they want behind closed doors.

Juan Pablo's Season: He Was A Different Person In The Fantasy Suite

Juan Pablo Galavis was a scandalous Bachelor in general throughout his 2014 season: he made homophobic comments during press tours, shamed Clare Crawley for getting intimate with him in the ocean (when he was a willing participant), and didn't try to actually get to know any of the women he was supposedly dating.

This all came to a head after his Fantasy Suite date with Andi Dorfman. She called the overnight date "a nightmare," saying:

I saw a side to him that I didn’t really like... Every time I started to talk about feelings or started to talk about, you know, something from my past or whatever, it was always him that started telling his own story. It was all stories about him, and not once did he really ask anything about me... I just started to realize that he didn’t really care about who I was, and what I thought, and what I want in life... It blew my mind that he thought that was okay to talk about [Crawley's overnight date]... There’s just no filter with him.

When she confronted Galavis on camera about his remarks in the Fantasy Suite, he dismissed her concerns saying, "It's okay, it's okay" and encouraged her to leave.

Ben F.'s Season: He Allegedly Slept With Courtney On Camera

Who could forget Courtney Robertson? During the 2012 season of The Bachelor, the model constantly insulted the other contestants, was notoriously hated by the other women in the house, and practically invented the line "I'm not here to make friends" - but none of that was as scandalous as her major move. Robertson will live on in Bachelor infamy for convincing Ben Flajnik to skinny dip with her and allegedly have sex in the ocean while the show was filming.

Flajnik ultimately got on one knee to propose to Robertson at the end of the season. The two eventually broke up, but Robertson wrote a tell-all memoir, I Didn’t Come Here to Make Friends: Confessions of a Reality Show Villain. “It was about 20 seconds,” she said of her tryst on television, adding a note from Flajnik. "He was like, ‘Well, 50,000 people just saw that.'”

Jillian's Season: Wes Had A Girlfriend The Entire Time

The first Canadian BacheloretteJillian Harris, fell hard for musician Wes Hayden during her 2009 season. During filming, it came out that Hayden was only on the show to promote himself as a country musician, but Harris didn't want to believe it. She held out for Hayden until it was revealed that he had a long-term girlfriend back home.

When she finally kicked him to the curb, he claimed he was "the first guy on The Bachelorette to ever make it to the Top 4 with a girlfriend."
