Sir David Attenborough is the undisputed king of nature narration, and nobody's arguing that. But once you've burned through every Planet Earth, Blue Planet, and Frozen Planet in existence, that familiar voice starts to blur across series.

The good news? Some of the best nature documentaries of the last few years aren't narrated by Attenborough at all. They're voiced by actors like Tom Hanks, Tom Hardy, Paul Rudd, Helena Bonham Carter, Benedict Cumberbatch, Bryan Cranston, and Reese Witherspoon, all Hollywood heavyweights who brought something genuinely different to the recording booth. From a massive ten-part BBC epic scored by Hans Zimmer to a macro-cinematography series nearly a decade in the making, these aren't vanity casting choices. These are the 13 best celebrity-narrated nature shows across Netflix, Apple TV+, Disney+, Peacock, and beyond, ranked from solid watch to genuinely unmissable by fans like you. Vote up your favorites.

Tiny World is a macro-cinematography masterpiece that shows the natural world from the perspective of its smallest inhabitants. Insects, hummingbirds, tiny frogs, and miniature mammals navigate a world where puddles look like oceans and blades of grass tower like redwood forests. The series was created by Tom Hugh-Jones, the filmmaker behind Planet Earth I and II and Human Planet, and took nearly a decade of filming across ecosystems worldwide to compile over 200 species of tiny creatures. Rudd isn't just the narrator, he's also an executive producer, which speaks to his genuine investment in the project. The specialized cameras used to capture the macro footage were cutting-edge at the time, and the results are still staggering. The series premiered October 2, 2020 on Apple TV+ and a second season followed on April 16, 2021. It earned an 8.9 on IMDb and spawned a spiritual companion series, Big Beasts, narrated by Tom Hiddleston.

Secrets of the Octopus is the third installment in National Geographic's Emmy-winning "Secrets Of..." franchise (following Secrets of the Whales narrated by Sigourney Weaver and Secrets of the Elephants narrated by Natalie Portman). Paul Rudd narrates the three-part miniseries, and legendary filmmaker James Cameron, yes, the Titanic and Avatar director, serves as executive producer. The series explores octopuses as "aliens on Earth". Creatures with three hearts, blue blood, and the ability to squeeze through openings the size of their eyeballs. They use tools, change shape to mimic other species, and even communicate across species lines. Rudd said in a statement that he "can't imagine anyone won't be blown away" by what the show reveals.  It premiered on Earth Day, April 21, 2024.

Oscar winner Tom Hanks narrates this massive ten-part nature event series spanning the entire Western Hemisphere. From the frozen Arctic of northern Canada all the way down to the windswept tip of Patagonia. The production took five years and 180 separate filming expeditions to complete. The music is composed by Oscar and Grammy winner Hans Zimmer. The executive producer is the legendary Mike Gunton, who previously helmed Planet Earth II, Planet Earth III, and Dynasties for the BBC. Co-executive producer Holly Spearing told BBC Wildlife magazine that the team had discussed Tom Hanks early in the process, saying there's no better companion for exploring the Americas than his voice. The BBC acquired the series from NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution, and it premiered with a special two-hour episode on NBC on February 23, 2025. This is the closest thing to a Planet Earth-scale production outside of the Attenborough universe, and Hanks brings an unmistakable warmth and credibility that makes it feel like he's sitting right next to you on the couch.

Academy Award-nominated actor Tom Hardy, known for Mad Max: Fury Road, The Revenant, and the Venom franchise, narrates this landmark five-part series following five apex predators at critical moments in their lives. You'll follow cheetahs across Tanzania's Serengeti, polar bears through the Canadian Arctic, lions in Botswana's Okavango Delta, pumas in the mountains of Patagonia in Chile, and African wild dogs in Zimbabwe. Sky's Director of Documentaries Poppy Dixon specifically chose Hardy for his passion for environmental causes, and his voice adds a raw intensity that matches the stakes these animals face. The series was Sky Nature's first co-production with Netflix, which means it got a global audience it absolutely deserved. If you like your nature docs with a cinematic edge and genuine tension, this one delivers.

Wild Babies follows newborn animals from the icy coasts of Antarctica to the Namib Desert as they figure out how to survive their first weeks of life. Baby seals, elephant calves, penguin chicks, and more stumble through their early days while Bonham Carter narrates with this impossibly gentle whisper that makes everything feel like a bedtime story. Each episode is a crisp 30 minutes with zero filler. The Bristol-based Humble Bee Films (known for collaborating with the BBC and Netflix on projects like Attenborough's Life in Colour) produced the series, and the orchestral score elevates it beyond typical cute-animal content. Also, Helena Bonham Carter narrated a second nature series, Eden: Untamed Planet, for BBC America the year prior.

    Fierce Queens

Oscar and Emmy winner Reese Witherspoon hosts and narrates this bite-sized docuseries that spotlights the powerful females of the animal kingdom, from ant queens running underground empires to cheetah mothers raising cubs solo. BBC Studios Natural History Unit produced the footage, so the visuals punch way above what you'd expect from a mobile-first platform. Each episode runs under ten minutes, which makes it ideal for a quick lunch break watch. The female-focused lens was genuinely refreshing when it dropped and it still holds up as a fun entry point for younger viewers.
